A Challenging Job for the CPA
The designation of being a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) simply means that you are an accountant who has passed the requisite training and exams to qualify for performing certain kinds of work. If you are interested in going further than just being an accountant somewhere, you need to look for CPA jobs in fields that are actually going to challenge you.
One example of this would be to work in the field of cost segmentation. This is a process which assesses tax depreciation on real property. Cost seg engineering is the analysis of the building being reviewed in order to determine where there may be monetary savings. The engineers work closely with tax-experienced CPAs to help clients save a lot of money on their property taxes. The CPA partners with high-level professionals in several fields to make sure that everything comes out on paper as it should.
This is challenging work which can keep a CPA on his toes in a way that many other office-based accounting jobs can not. Of course, there’s no rule anywhere that says that you must take on challenging work but if you strive to do more than just crunch numbers then these are the jobs that you may want to be looking into.

Interesting information, I think in any occupation if you don’t continue to challenge yourself to grow you can get stuck in a rut. Especially with all the new technology out there you have to stay on top of the newest business systems, otherwise other people will get the jobs. As someone who is self employed I have to market myself and all my skills on a regular basis. In fact most self employed people spend around twenty five percent of their time marketing. That’s a big chunk of your working week.
