Setting Up a Home Office
You got the OK from your boss and you are ready to begin telecommuting. You’ve joined the ranks of people who are working from home and attempting to balance work and life responsibilities. Carving out a place in your home dedicated to work is important. Working at the kitchen table will only last so long before you spill your child’s breakfast on your laptop and you eat everything in the cabinet. What do you need to get started? Desk, computer, printer, phone, and rolodex – these are essentials.
Business equipment frequently used at the office may have a place in your home office. Instead of running off to the nearest supply store or back to the work office, a paper folder could serve as a time saver and practical addition. A paper perforator might have a place in your home office by cutting paper quickly and precisely for mailings, brochures or other promotional materials. Paper cutters would allow you to cut through a stack of papers with one motion. Having equipment at home will allow you to create professional materials and still maintain the high quality outcome that your boss expects.
Research equipment options before deciding what you need in your home office. With the stringent expectations of the workplace, professional grade equipment might be a sensible addition to your home office.

Great suggestions. I have a home office and finally settled on a spare bedroom to put all my equipment and papers in one place. I especially like the suggestion of a Rolodex, it seems like such a dated tool, but it’s a great place to keep business cards for quick access. I also added a six foot long table in addition to my desk to keep reference books and current projects on.
