My Home Office Security System
I have a rather unique security system for my home office. One’s name is Emma, and the other’s name is Grace.
If you haven’t yet figured it out, my home office security system happens to be two dogs. Two BIG dogs. One is a mastiff mix, and the other is a white shepherd. They are very good at letting me know when someone is walking through the alley, or when the mailman is at the door.
If you work at home, I think it’s a very good policy to have a good-sized dog (or at least one that sounds good-sized) to offer some protection, not to mention distraction. A dog such as a Chesapeake Bay retriever is pretty good-sized, and their bark should be enough to deter anyone who comes poking around with intentions of doing harm.
I also have to say that having dogs is a good deterrant for those mid-day solicitations that seem to plague most of us work-at-homers. I think they must be targeting housewives, because who else would be home? But they usually don’t stay at the door long when they hear two big nasty-sounding dogs barking up a storm!
There are a lot of good reasons to have dogs, of course, but it’s just extra convenient that they make good security alarms systems for a work-at-homer!
